Third Party Top-Up Calculator

This form will determine whether the top up that has been proposed to be paid by a third party, as part of a care home placement, is both affordable and sustainable to you, as the third party who will be making the payments. You will need to provide details of your income and/or savings, depending on how you will be making the payments.

If you have been assessed as needing care in a residential or nursing home, the Council will find a care home that will be able to meet those needs in line with our contracted rates for those services, which is what we pay to the care home. However, you might wish to choose a different accommodation to the one identified by us as being able to meet your needs. If you do, and your chosen care home is more expensive than the one we have identified as suitable to meet your care needs, an additional payment will need to be made to pay the difference between the two amounts. This type of additional payment is called a top-up payment and it must be paid by a third party.   This top-up payment is in addition to both the assessed financial contribution required to be paid by the person receiving the care and to the amount the Council will be contributing towards the care. A top up payment may also be required where you have been paying privately to live in a care home which is more expensive than our normal rate and you wish to remain there when you become eligible for help from us with your fees. • This form should only be completed if you have received a letter from Cheshire West and Chester Council detailing the proposed third party top up payment.
• You should complete the form based on your current financial circumstances, and provide as much detail as possible.
• You should have any financial documents to hand when completing the form; such as bank statements, benefit award letters, utility bills etc.
• When detailing your income, this should be recorded as a monthly amount.
• If you intend to pay the top up amount from any savings you have, you will need to provide evidence such as a bank or building society statement. These can be uploaded when completing the form.
